ReDesign Callers Caddy

First it had to work.

The player has been the heart of Callers Caddy from the very beginning. This is where the music plays. This is where patterns and singing calls are initiated. This is where tempo, pitch, loop, lyrics, planner, and many other important functions are located.

Therefore, one thing clearly took priority in the first phase: The functions had to be there.

A prototype doesn't have to be beautiful. A prototype has to show whether the idea works. It has to perform the most important tasks. That's exactly what the old player did. It wasn't particularly elegant. But it could do the important things.

Now almost all core functions are available in Callers Caddy. Therefore, the time was right to clean up the interface.

Function first, beauty later

The old player was a real workspace. It had grown. With each new feature came a new field, a new button, or a new display.

That was perfectly fine at that stage.

Important questions included:

  • Can a caller safely start music?
  • Can he change the tempo and pitch directly?
  • Are Loop-In and Loop-Out accessible?
  • Do the lyrics, planner, and locations work in a live setting?
  • Can the player handle real caller nights?

The design was important, but it wasn't the main task.

The following often applies to software: First it must be useful. Then it can be beautiful.

Tidy up, organize, recognize more easily

In the new design, I've structured the player more effectively. The most important areas are now more clearly separated.

The most important song information is displayed at the top. The main controls are in the center. Below are the controls for tempo, pitch, volume, location, planner, lyrics, and loop. The loop functions have their own, cleaner section.

This makes the player appear calmer. It is easier to read. And it is quicker to grasp.

This is especially important on stage.

A caller doesn't have time to search for long during a tip. The interface must be helpful. Don't disturb.

The eye calls with

Of course, the caller's caddy is still a tool. It's not just meant to look pretty. It's meant to function reliably.

But as we all know, we eat with our eyes.

A clean and uncluttered interface feels more secure. It makes working with the program more enjoyable. And it also shows to the outside world: Caller's Caddy is no longer just a technical prototype. It is gradually becoming a real tool for everyday callers.

For me, this redesign is therefore more than just a prettier player.

It is a visible step from experiment to finished product.

The player has matured.

The new player remains functional. But it appears clearer, calmer, and more professional.

That was exactly the goal.

First came the function. Now it's getting the form it deserves.
