Recording has started. So, I warmly welcome you all to this introduction to the Callers Caddy, a 60-minute crash course.

00:16 – 00:40
I counted which features and things I want to show you today. And then calculated that down to 60 minutes, so we have four minutes for each feature I want to show. That's why we're going to keep it tough and straightforward at the beginning. But afterwards, as I said, I've planned plenty of time for your questions, for does this also work or…

00:42 – 00:53
Are you planning this and that, which one? So, there is enough time reserved for me. But if someone just wants to leave later, no problem. I have to keep checking if anyone wants to join the Zoom room or not.

00:53 – 01:06
That doesn't look good at the moment. Wonderful. So, the questions, and I will also… not look too much into the chat during my introduction.

01:06 – 01:22
So, I will pause every now and then and give time to ask questions. But do me a favor, don't bombard me in the chat, because either I'm presenting or I'm reading the chat. My brain can't handle both.

01:22 – 01:41
So, let's get started. I don't know if you're already using the Callers Caddy, or if you're just saying, hey, he's doing so much marketing here, or someone recommended it to me, I'll just take a look. So, it’s built for everyone who's interested.

01:41 – 01:53
If you have a question along the way, it's best to jot it down quickly, or then just ask during the break. Unfortunately, Thomas Franzek couldn't participate today.

01:53 – 02:05
A big hello from me to him. Thomas joined the Callers Caddy development team three weeks ago. We're a team of two, hooray. But I think that's cool.

02:05 – 02:14
We now have a bit of a four-eyes principle. Although, I believe we're both glasses wearers, so we have an eight-eyes principle. So that's double the good.

02:15 – 02:44
A few pieces of information to start with before I share my screen and show you a lot. The Callers Caddy is a program that currently runs on Windows. It's tested there, it runs smoothly, and it's constantly being refined. When I designed it back then, I made sure that it could theoretically also be ported to Apple, Linux, iPad, and Android.

02:44 – 02:55
But we all have a time problem, I assume. And you have to focus your priorities a bit. So in that respect, it fits.

02:56 – 03:20
So, everything is possible and in planning, but I’ll start with Windows first because it's available and I'm familiar with it. So that's the info. For those who know the Callers Caddy from earlier, I started programming it in 2001. Back then, of course, with Visual Basic and Microsoft Access.

03:20 – 03:45
So with what I could do back then. And then I got bitten in March, just before Easter. There was a small project, and I thought, okay, because some callers, after I took a baby break, a child break, when I came back, the question kept coming up, is there a Callers Caddy for Windows 10, then I was asked, is there one for Windows 11?

03:45 – 04:18
And I always said, no, it would be too much effort, and I won't do it. And then at some point, the demand was so great, and I was so tired of it that I said, oh come on, I can program, but let's try out what Claude Code, AI programming, can do, because I can program, but time is always the limiting factor. And then I just said, let's test how much can be programmed with AI support. And then I got sucked into the rabbit hole.

04:19 – 04:46
I couldn't stop anymore. So, old companions also reappeared and said, hey, cool thing, I'll test it for you, I'll give you feedback. I definitely want to mention Thorsten Hubmann and Klaus Warneke, who were there from the very beginning and really helped to iron out the toughest bugs. That was really cool of them.

04:47 – 05:11
And so it just keeps going, and now it's international. And last week I did the same session here in English. So now it's time not to bore you any longer with my words, but to share the screen. So how do you get to the Callers Caddy if you haven't seen it yet?

05:11 – 05:26
I should have maybe asked this earlier. Sound and image. So now you see the screen well that I shared, and I'm understandable. That would be just some feedback before I ramble in the wrong direction for hours.

05:26 – 05:52
Philipp, thumbs up, great, all good, wonderful. Yes, perfect, okay. There's nothing worse than talking for an hour and then realizing the sound didn't work. So if you want the Callers Caddy, the website is callerscaddy.de and if you're using English, you can click on English, but that shouldn't be the case for us today.

05:52 – 06:08
Then you go to Download and you'll get to the download area. To the download area. I have three files there. First, there's always the current version and the archives.

06:08 – 06:28
I've always kept it tidy so it's clear. And then there are three versions. One is the code version, because the Callers Caddy is open source, meaning I voluntarily and openly show everyone my code. So anyone can view it, use it, steal it, get inspired, if they have a knack for it.

06:30 – 07:11
Then there's the update file, which is for when you eventually update the Callers Caddy after the initial installation, you'll need this, so it's your constant companion to always pull an update, and only for the one-time case of installing it for the first time, you take the one that's incorrectly labeled, the file that has nothing written on it, just Callers Caddy and the version, that's the initial version. Inside is an empty database, an empty configuration file, so everything is empty and clean and freshly prepared. Just this for the first time and then later the update file.

07:11 – 07:32
The Callers Caddy is also not an installation program. So you don't need to run an update or installation, but I've made sure that you can simply unpack it, the ZIP file, wherever you want. So I recommend something simple like C. Then you have the folder easy to unzip later.

07:33 – 07:44
Then make it C:\\Callers Caddy. Unzip and start. That's all. You just need to place it and start the EXE file of Callers Caddy.

07:44 – 08:12
Then the program runs. And the advantage is, if you switch computers, if you want to have a second computer or something, you just need to pull the whole folder onto a USB stick, an external hard drive, or whatever. And then you can just start directly on another computer. So it's super easy and a brilliant thing for transport.

08:12 – 08:43
And when you've started the Callers Caddy, it looks something like this. Let's see, my window isn't in a, no, in any critical area. The nice thing about the Callers Caddy is that you can customize it a lot. Meaning, you can choose how big you want your windows to be.

08:43 – 08:57
Because we all don't have uniform screen sizes. Everyone has their own. And everyone also has a different workflow for working. Meaning, that was very important to me back then with Visual Basic.

08:57 – 09:22
Not back then, but I had the dream earlier that you could customize a lot however you wanted. This also includes that I don't want to pre-decide which widgets, so small sub-windows, you work with here, but you can add things yourself. I'll just pull one here. You can take a window and throw it anywhere you want.

09:22 – 09:53
This can be over another window, it can be between windows, or if you drop it onto a window, you’ll see it here, and then it stacks the individual tabs on top of each other, and you can click through them. Depending on how big your screen is. I like to be out and about with a small laptop, and then there’s little space on the go. Little space visible because of that.

09:53 – 10:22
You can customize everything, and that’s really nice. I’ll start with an explanation of a window, but I’ll just check the chat to see if there’s… currently a question that fits, then either in the chat or briefly unmute, or should I just keep going? I have a question.

10:22 – 10:43
Yes. How often are there updates, or is it like with SqView where you had to check from time to time if there’s a current version available that you need to update? And will you be informed if, for example, a current update is available? Good question. So, how often are there updates?

10:43 – 11:09
At the moment sometimes every day a new one or at least one per week, because many features are still being developed. If you’re connected to the internet when starting Callers Caddy, it automatically checks for you if a new version exists. And then you can decide whether you want to download it now or say later.

11:09 – 11:26
And I have a newsletter that you can also subscribe to via the callerscaddy.de page. I write there too, but I don’t want to spam people. I write a summary about which features came in that month roughly once a month. And then you’ll also get information.

11:26 – 11:36
I always find it important to be proactive. Do good and report about it. So informing you when there’s something new and what’s new. That’s the update.

11:37 – 11:57
So the update cycle is currently irregular, but very often, because we are very active in developing. Good. Then I just want to introduce you a bit to the most important field here.

11:57 – 12:18
That would be the player at the top left. Of course, all software programs, all playback programs have similar features. So when I select a song, I’ve now chosen Opposites Attract or Rocky Top, we all know that. I get the playtime, total duration, and title in the central window.

12:19 – 12:42
I also have some information at the top about the current beats per minute, whether loops are set, and which dance program I have. And here’s a coffee break line. Then the play bar, where it’s currently playing music. Then the indicated seven parts of a Singing Call, as a representation.

12:42 – 12:50
Then a play button, pause, stop, fade out. Classic stuff. And I can set different things. I can change the current tempo.

12:50 – 13:06
So if I have a slippery floor in my club today, I can of course slow down the tempo. If I have slow dancers and I know I can slow it down. Or if I'm doing a youth tip, I can of course speed it up. No question about it.

13:07 – 13:21
But that's just for today. That will be lost after the next start. Then the song tempo is stored in the database for the respective song that I just marked. If you say the song should always be faster.

13:21 – 13:32
And then it's saved. And the pitch, of course, is also saved individually for each song. And then I just click on Play. And I don't even know how loud the volume comes across to you.

13:32 – 14:04
Is that okay? I have the song feedback set up on my end, where I can be asked after each play if I agree with certain ratings. I'll click that further, that would be a bit too low now, but immediate feedback for yourself is, I think, always incredibly helpful. Okay, so that's roughly everything that's available in this player.

14:06 – 14:23
I always have the question, what do we need to access so often? And I find the display unclear. Okay, good question. How clearly do you see my form here, my Callers Caddy?

14:23 – 14:31
Can you read all the texts or is it blurry for you? I couldn't read it. That's the same problem we had last week. And I thought I had solved it.

14:31 – 14:47
The same thing. That was also visible in the recording. Yeah, wait a minute, let me see if I make the image larger here.

14:47 – 15:23
Probably nothing will change for you now either. Then... I'll quickly rearrange a few things because it shouldn't be like this.

15:23 – 15:37
So good image quality is important when explaining software. Next attempt. Here I am again.

15:37 – 15:54
Okay. And now I'll share my screen. So give me some feedback. Can you see the image better now?

15:54 – 16:10
Absolutely. Wonderful. The solution was just 23 clicks away. I just need to quickly rearrange my sub-windows a bit.

16:23 – 16:27
Okay. Wonderful. Then I'll continue here. It's important that you see something too.

16:27 – 16:40
That's why, very good. And then, let's see, I still have a lot to configure. Under settings, I can only guess, take about 10 minutes sometime.

16:40 – 17:03
It's a very long settings list with everything you can configure. I don't want to go into each detail, but again, if you have time, you can just dig through it. But most things are saved, so the Callers Caddy saves it for you to make it easy. For example, you select which dance program you currently have.

17:03 – 17:35
We're currently in a transition period between the old and new dance programs. So you can run everything in parallel here. It works, if you have a club that is still dancing old mainstream, then you select mainstream here, and it gathers the subordinate programs. Alternatively, if your club is already calling Plus 2026, you can click that.

17:35 – 17:48
And it also takes the important programs below in a cascading manner. It later influences the sequences that are displayed and so on. And you can... I'll get to that in a moment.

17:49 – 18:05
You can also set it for your club. We'll do that shortly. But yes, if you just want to click here manually for a performance or whatever to select which dance program you currently have, you click up here and choose it. Like this.

18:05 – 18:17
So, how's it going? First of all, the question is, how do you get music? Not buying, you all know that. How do you get music into the system?

18:17 – 18:51
There are many ways, but the simplest one nowadays is to take a ZIP file that you get from the Square Dance label, drag & drop it onto the Import New Songs button, and then it analyzes the ZIP file, finds out, I have a database behind it with all the known songs researched, what is what. It offers you, I found this and that in MP3s. No, there are things like with Harmony or Female Voice and so on.

18:51 – 19:00
You can listen to a preview. And if you say, you can of course change everything before you import it. Or you say, I want something else. Or I'm so satisfied.

19:00 – 19:13
Then you just click on import. And okay, just like that. It also finds an error, so it just fixes it. And now I should have added Jolene.

19:13 – 19:31
And now Jolene is also in the system, so really quick. Alternatively, if you click on that, there are also things where you can drag in entire folders and have them analyzed. I would recommend doing the Singing in one go and the Patter songs in another go. Then you can also say, these are Singing, these are Patter.

19:33 – 19:49
This way you can just let it do its thing. You can also just drag and drop a whole folder with ZIP files here, and the Callers Caddy imports everything at the push of a button. That was the idea. Some things come from SqView.

19:49 – 20:00
I also offer a SqView migration tool. It's called Migration.exe. It can easily transfer about 80 to 90 percent of the data over. You can try it out when you switch.

20:02 – 20:15
Just start it, it asks you where you have SqView, what's in there? Should I copy all of that over? And then it does the heavy lifting for you. Then you have your system, and it looks something like what I have here.

20:15 – 20:30
You have a song list, you have a player, and you have other fields. A normal evening then goes something like this, so my recommendation. You click on Location, that's why it's bold here. Location can be.

20:30 – 21:00
A club you have, it could be the name of a special dance that you might organize every year or something like that. You can also have different dance programs for each club, so they have a Mainstream night and a Plus night. You can link them and connect them, and then they know about each other. So, you have a club, I just took A-Test here as an example.

21:00 – 21:19
Under Settings, you can set all sorts of things for the club, which dance program. Do they always dance faster, do they always dance slower? You can also say instead of the temporary tempo, I always want the target beats per minute, so my club always at 125 or so. How many tips per evening and so on.

21:19 – 21:31
So all sorts of things. And you can even say on which dates the thing starts. And then you open the Callers Caddy. And I called last night, started the program, and it said, are you currently with the Pumpernickels in Soest?

21:31 – 21:51
And I said, yes, okay. And then it does the rest, it automatically pulls them in. What’s the idea of this location? As soon as you have selected a location, the Callers Caddy remembers that you played a song in that location and later offers you recommendations based on that.

21:51 – 22:05
So that, for example, this song isn't played again the next evening, which would be a bit boring, always the same song in the evening. And a few other things too. So that's why choosing a location makes sense.

22:05 – 22:20
And then up here in the header, you see 'Add' in very thin letters and then the club name. That's really helpful to quickly see where I am. And then, I'll show you a simple way to use the club evening. So, I always mark it in red, just a little identifier here.

22:20 – 22:37
First location, then the planner. And here you get all your songs displayed in the planner. And you can compile them into a playlist. So for the evening you want to create.

22:37 – 22:53
For the really lazy ones, there's Autofill. You just say how many tips and which variant should be filled. Patter and Singings alternating. Or Singings only at the beginning and end.

22:53 – 23:01
Only Patter, only Singings. And then, for me, it's usually back to standard. I only call Mainstream and Plus. Those are still the standards.

23:01 – 23:18
And then it automatically populates the list here with the set filter mode. So I can filter by Patter and by Singing. But I'll just leave them all in. I can filter by genre, so if I've maintained the data.

23:18 – 23:37
And I can have them sorted. Alphabetically, quality, that's like quality, how much quality value do you assign to a song? So the combination of how well the song is produced and how well you can present it? So a 9 would be the best-produced song that you can belt out with full voice.

23:37 – 23:49
And a 1 would be the question, why do you even have this song on your hard drive? Then last played. That comes in here now. Let's see, do I have test data for A.

23:50 – 24:10
No, I don't have that in there. It will show when it was last played. I use recommendation, that's a score that calculates how high the value, the quality value is, multiplied by the number of days you haven't called the song. In other words, rarely called songs that are awesome show up at the top.

24:12 – 24:28
And I think that's always a nice thing. If you want a bit more randomness, then I would recommend the weighted randomness. It’s based on the recommendation but rolls the dice so that not just the same song always appears at the top deterministically. But that's now academic and physics.

24:28 – 24:57
Or you don't need that right now. But if you select this here and then just say, fill my list, you can't go wrong. And then you can say, delete list or take over list, like this, or you can also manually rearrange the items here as you like. You can save and load it into a text file for next time when you say, I've prepared a club night with the same theme, save it, then it's always the same playback order.

24:58 – 25:14
Then you just say OK. And down here, he is now from the song list, all the songs are in there, switched to playlist. And now all the selected songs are in there. I can start them from here with a double click or just via the keys.

25:14 – 25:38
That's how I can quickly put together a club night. I'll show one later, not a more complicated one, but a more refined way to design club nights using Wade Driver's ERR principle. I think that's a great thing too. Then I'll go through the fields a bit.

25:38 – 26:12
Here on the right, I've listed the song data, so you find certain fields in the database for each of the songs you've imported that you can change and adjust. Just so you know. If you can't find something because the window isn't open yet, you can go through the view; here is always the overview of all available windows and you can... Normally, they switch automatically to magnetic.

26:12 – 26:28
I'll use the Loop Finder. It comes like every new field... I had set the Loop Finder to non-magnetic. One moment.

26:28 – 26:46
It's definitely planned out. I was very surprised. Good. In here.

26:46 – 26:55
Docking myself. Okay. Found a little bug. Okay, I need to address that directly afterwards.

26:56 – 27:07
So, you can actually toggle whether this thing should dock or not. Apparently, there's a little issue right now. Anyway, it will be resolved half an hour after our appointment.

27:08 – 27:30
So much for the release cycles. If you're missing a new field, just click here and bring it in. Then I wanted to show you how to find a loop. And without having to listen in to where good loops are.

27:30 – 27:52
Let's take one now. 1020 is great, I think. I'll take the Patter and go to the Loop Finder. There are buttons here at the bottom left for manually setting loops, but with the Loop Finder, it's much easier.

27:53 – 28:21
Up here, you see the entire song represented as a waveform. And I've predefined that a jump, when you want to use a normal Singing Call as a basis for a Patter, should happen well at this transition between the Opener and Sequence 1 and Sequences 3 and 4. We haven't included the Key Change to the Closer yet. So...

28:22 – 28:37
That's good. But you can also define where it should search by adjusting the sliders yourself. The very simple option is to click on Analyze. It looks for similar music parts, where it transitions well from the start to the entry and has found something here.

28:37 – 28:50
These are the white lines. I'll click through here, and it shows me where it has something. And back here are the number of beats. A multiple of 64 beats makes sense, of course.

28:50 – 28:58
So that sounds good already. I hope you can hear the preview now. I don't know if anything is coming through for you. No, nothing is coming through.

28:58 – 29:07
Okay. No sound. Then you just have to try it out yourself. Can I get the sound?

29:07 – 29:26
I would need to route the system sound in here. But trying it out is definitely much better. The important thing is that this score finds that similarity. And usually, when previewing the first three or four values, you already find something that is really smooth.

29:26 – 29:51
And then you can just click on Apply here. It will take that and register it as a loop jump point for going back and forth. Here in the Callers Caddy, in addition to the pure jump points, I also do two things. I also create a Loop Offset, which is always different for each MP3 file.

29:51 – 30:17
That's just a little refinement, so that the two jumps really align. And I also set a crossfade over it, meaning before the loop, the old part fades out and the new part fades in. So that, well, the loops are almost always smooth. I always find that very nice for an audio purist who then says, oh, that sounds good.

30:18 – 30:33
So that's how to create a Patter loop. Let me see, that was quite a bit already. Now I'll just check in the chat. If there are any questions or anything, just ask out loud.

30:33 – 30:49
The import tool for DMM. No, I don't have an import tool for DMM yet, because it's a, how do you say it nicely, proprietary data storage. I can't get in there. The SqView, on the other hand, I can control very well.

30:49 – 31:05
Thomas used the same free database software as I did. And that's why we're brothers in the software stack. So I got into SqView much better. There are migration tools for the old Callers Caddy 1.

31:05 – 31:28
If anyone still has data, I know some have maintained their XP computers and even put two XP computers in the drawer. So you always have a computer for Callers Caddy and Windows XP. But no, for the DMM, Digital Music Magician, which I believe was started by Bill Heyman back then. No, I couldn't create one for that.

31:28 – 31:46
I just can't access the data. And otherwise, there are no questions at this time. All good, then I'll go ahead.

31:46 – 32:11
Then I'll take a look, I wrote a small script here to see what's still missing. Now, since we're talking about song data, you can for, where did I have that? Oh, it was just an example with Jolene. It sometimes happens that you have multiple song variants for a song, so multiple MP3s.

32:11 – 32:44
Or, I'm just thinking of Ghost Riders in the Sky, I know that dear Deborah also likes to do Ghost Chickens in the Sky outside, and you need a different text for that. So, you have the option here to attach other music pieces, or if you get the Harmony pieces directly from the label, they will be automatically attached here. Alternatively, you can add variants through extended data here. And here you see, I've now added the music variants.

32:44 – 32:55
But you can also simply attach lyric variants. Just if you want to link multiple texts to a song. Like I said, something like Ghost Chickens. Would you like an alternative text?.

32:55 – 33:24
And everything stays attached to the same song. So you don't have to do any gymnastics to marry everything together or possibly fill out paper to know where it belongs. I mentioned that you can select the dance program at the top here. You can link the dance program to your location so you don't have to select it manually every time.

33:24 – 33:37
And what impact does that have now? Primarily on the sequences. And for the sequences, I've gathered from everywhere. I think we all do that.

33:37 – 34:01
By now, there are over 10,000 sequences. These are not just Singing Call sequences, but also many modules and Get-Outs and so on. What I don't do in the Callers Caddy is that I don't save which dance program a sequence is from. Because we are experiencing it right now, the dance program is sometimes fluid, it changes.

34:01 – 34:39
And that's why the Callers Caddy calculates the corresponding dance programs by itself. In other words, there is this selection list, and for each selection list of dance programs, there are of course the corresponding calls. And in the Callers Caddy, it's stored for every spelling, so Heads and then there are some who just write H for Heads and then there are those who write HDS for Heads. Then there's of course the Heads Square Thru, Heads Square Thru Three, Sides Square Thru, and everything should link to the same call.

34:39 – 35:13
So I create an alias, text replacement, and to let the program know, okay, all these variations refer to the Square Thru, I need to put it into Mainstream 2026, and then I display it. And then I get all the sequences in a long, long scrollable list. Right now, there are 744 Singing Call sequences for Plus. With the Only button, I can turn on all that are available.

35:13 – 35:41
The Mainstream figures are also included, so the Mainstream sequences. But if I'm setting up for a Plus night, I want sequences that include Plus. Here I can select things like show me the calls that include a recycle, for example. And for a Class, I can, no that would be inconvenient, the recycle is quite late, so I'll take a Ferris Wheel instead.

35:41 – 35:53
Ferris Wheel and I also say I want to have Ferris Wheel as a limit. And unfortunately, I don't have one right now. That's the demonstration effect. Let's do it anyway.

35:55 – 36:18
Swing Thru. There's none in there either, that's strange. Oh right, I'm in Plus. Then it should have worked here with the Ferris Wheel too.

36:18 – 36:35
I still have the Plus filter on and only, so it should only show me Plus figures that are limited to Ferris Wheel. That was my mistake. Perfect, look at that, now we have 40 sequences suitable for a Class that I can use in the Singing Call.

36:35 – 36:52
That include a Ferris Wheel. And only use figures up to Ferris Wheel. When I click on it, it gets displayed enlarged so I can read it well on the screen. I can click through here and…

36:52 – 37:05
So, it always optimizes it nicely so that everything can be seen on one screen. I can just call down. It's now simply sequential. Or if I want a bit of variety, I can switch to the dice here.

37:05 – 37:16
And then it jumps in randomly. But it remembers which sequence it just displayed, so you don't get a sequence twice. I'm always collecting more.

37:16 – 37:52
So even if you have sequences, you can of course load them in. Vic Ceder has an export function on his site where you can export sequences in his CSDS format. You can load them in or just normally, if you have a totally typical text list, where simply per line, just like you've seen here, one line per line and you drag it in as a file and there can be 100 sequences in it, it reads them all in.

37:52 – 38:10
That's the big picture regarding the sequences. Of course, if you don't like one, you can… What's going on with the sequences now? Oh, here change.

38:10 – 38:19
I was looking for an edit. I always just do the English version. Change. Of course, you can also change something in this dataset if there's a typo or something.

38:20 – 38:31
You click on it, change something, click on save. And then it's in there. So that… That's very helpful.

38:31 – 38:46
Now we've displayed sequences. I wouldn't know that… The name comes from Thorsten Hubmann. He came up with the idea, let's call it Dynamic Lyrics.

38:46 – 39:04
In other words, the problem is that sometimes you need to display Singing Call lyrics and you want to see sequences. This works great with the Dynamic Lyrics. Now let me see. Here when loading Jolene, the lyrics also came up.

39:04 – 39:23
Here we have a figure part included that came with the lyrics. And Closer, the typical thing that comes with an HTML file as lyrics. I would always recommend going with HTML. So ditch rtf, pdf, docx, and I don't know what else.

39:23 – 39:35
They're just technically really annoying. So I can only recommend HTML. It's just much easier for a software developer to handle. Let me click on the link.

39:35 – 39:55
You don't need to know what I'm doing. I'm clicking on an analysis of the song. It's finding now. I'm just clicking through it. It's searching for keywords like Opener, Figure, and Middle Break and inserting timestamps for me.

39:55 – 40:18
It's not inserting them into the text, but they're only displayed temporarily here. And on the right, I get to see where it thinks it found the opener, these red bars. You can also grab them if you think it didn't find it well. Then it found the sequences, the Figure Parts, four times here.

40:18 – 40:34
It also found that there are lyrics in the last two lines, Tags, and excludes them before replacing. And then here, it found Middle, Middle Break. And the Closer.

40:34 – 40:53
Now I'll do it once, okay, if you say you can't catch the sound, then I need to play it briefly. And… Listen now where I would start. Okay, somewhere around measure 8.

40:53 – 41:23
And... I want to start at 19 now, that would be... I can move the whole template here, you might see it down here, the whole template across seven sequences until it fits for me. And if you can't catch the sound now, that's a shame, but I'll start it here and place it a bit further up.

41:23 – 41:32
Skip 20 seconds. We'll take a look here in a moment. I have Autoscroll on, it scrolls through the entire song text. And now we just had, oh, it has already replaced.

41:32 – 41:39
That wasn't the original text. If I scroll further now. I need to hit Play.

41:49 – 42:12
Now the sequence here is about to end. And it jumps to the next figure and inserts the next figure, the next sequence. So, it dynamically overlays the new text. And it has now jumped to the next song.

42:12 – 42:32
Can I ask a quick question? Yes, of course. These bars, when I'm in the synchronization area, you showed that these bars can be moved. Does that have any effect or is it just for show?

42:32 – 42:52
No, it has an effect. Specifically on the text replacement. So for example, I could, here for instance, at the recognition of the beginning, only three text parts follow. I'll leave them as they are.

42:52 – 43:02
It doesn't replace them with sequence lines. And suppose the automation had... It's very good, it finds a lot. But suppose it actually missed something there.

43:02 – 43:17
The Swing the Corner is one of the keywords where it says, after that I'll just put it in. If that didn't work, you can of course say, okay, no, that's... There's also a sequence after that. Then you can adjust them accordingly.

43:17 – 43:41
Or... There are often lyrics where you have the same lyric part for Opener, Middle, and Closer. It says up here Opener, Middle, Break, and Closer. And then in the text, sometimes highlighted in color, there are three different texts.

43:41 – 44:01
Here comes the text for Streets of London or something, you have the different text blocks or so. Then you can, for the Opener, since Opener, Middle, and Break are all next to each other. You can move them so that the texts from the Opener, Middle, and Break point to the right place. So it's like this...

44:03 – 44:37
I'm trying to automate as much as possible for you, so you have as little work as possible, but every automation has its limits, and there has to be a way to intervene. So the bars on the side refer to the text, and the text markers inside refer to when the music player should scroll to that point. Here at second 38, it should jump there. Those are the two things.

44:37 – 45:02
The right side refers to the text, and the yellow insertion items refer to the scrolling speed. So far, for example, with Grand Square, there are always many text blocks. If there are three different ones, I've simply set the time input to the next block, which is also possible. There are many ways to navigate around certain things, that's it.

45:02 – 45:20
There are so many possibilities. Yes, before we get the lyrics in, I mean, I've recorded a lot from old records that I then have to import. How does it link my lyrics?

45:20 – 45:55
Would it do that automatically, or do I have to do it like in SqView for each one? So the basic principle is that it tries to support you as much as possible up to a point where it can't anymore. Let's say you have all, I have a lyric folder in Callers Caddy, and if you copy all the lyrics there, it tries to figure out by text similarity, oh yes, this thing is called Streets of London, the other thing is, the lyric file is also called Streets of London, but it also says, I

45:55 – 46:15
I don't know, Royal Records 1, 2, 3 or something like that, then it also says, oh yes, that should be it. You can also, there is, there is so much. I'll point out the Potential window. There are many bulk editing tools in there that I don't want to show all at once here.

46:15 – 46:29
It's so much. But for example, there is one here without lyrics. And it shows you, for example, which songs still don't have lyrics. And I have a search here called rummaging box.

46:29 – 47:00
So, you can, I know from SqView, Thomas has a ZIP file on his website with, I don't know, also like 8000 or so lyric files. You can download that, put it in the folder, and say, search in there. And then it also goes looking in that folder for each missing lyric piece, and based on the same similarity principle, it makes suggestions like, this sounds a lot like the song you're looking for the lyric for, it offers that to you, and you have to decide, yes, no, and so on.

47:00 – 47:29
And otherwise, you can always, but that's not a big deal, you can also manually link a lyrics file here in the song data for each one up here. If all the automations don't work, but you don't have to do everything by hand compulsively, but... But I need the lyrics as a separate HTML file.

47:29 – 47:48
Not like in SqView, where it's in that database. Those aren't separate HTML files, but in a separate database, I'll say. As far as I know, Thomas does it through files too. He doesn't pull them into the database, but he does the same thing I do.

47:48 – 48:05
The file and the lyric file and the MP3 file don't know each other. For a dumb computer, they're just two parallel files. And there has to be a connection made between the two somewhere. And this connection, as far as I know, he also stores in his database, just like I do.

48:05 – 48:26
And here I also have the information about the file, but not the file itself in the database. So, you can just fill in all your leftover files here, and it finds so many things nowadays. Speaking of files, there will be more questions about that.

48:26 – 48:42
Can the RTF files still be used? Yes. I would just say that I wouldn't recommend it for the future, so if you, what the question was from Tors, yes. You can use them, you can incorporate them, just…

48:42 – 49:08
RTF files should also work with the Dynamic Lyrics for… docx, doc, and pdf it’s not possible to mess around in the files and embed anything, that’s not intended. Those are actually, especially pdf, is the format for immutable text storage. And if you were to change that, it would be contradictory.

49:08 – 49:28
But rtf files work, no question about it. I would just say looking ahead, aim for html in the long run. They’re not smaller, you can’t say that, but they are really simpler files that the programs can handle better. And also Mike, who programs SquareDesk.

49:28 – 49:49
Thomas, we recommend all HTML because it’s just much easier for us to handle. So, the topic of lyrics and especially Dynamic Lyrics is a topic that is not trivial.

49:49 – 50:06
I wouldn’t say that you’ve grasped it in the five minutes of looking at it. But he tries to automate as much as possible. And as I said, regarding the potential, I also allowed myself to make a little joke here. Make everything nice.

50:06 – 50:23
The make-everything-nice button. I was also involved in programming, and the customer often says, I would like to have the make-it-all-nice button. Here it is. It tries to fix everything it can, if the beats per minute haven’t been determined yet or loops haven’t been found yet.

50:23 – 50:36
It tries to optimize all of them on its own. And so if you want the lazy option, you can click on that. Thanks. Yes, sure.

50:37 – 51:07
It’s all good, we are now twelve participants, that’s still a manageable group, so we can take the time to ask a few questions in between. Then, yes, I still have the question about the Dynamic Lyrics, Klaus already asked, but it’s just a nice thing with the embedding. I also have one. My lyrics usually don’t have any figures in them.

51:07 – 51:26
Do they need to have some in order for me to combine them, or can it work like this? That’s a good question. I haven’t tested that. I would suspect, so this is just a guess, he simply doesn’t find a figure block and therefore wouldn’t find a place to insert the sequences for you.

51:26 – 51:59
But it should be enough if you just add a heading like Figure or something in the place where it should jump to, then it should do that. But it would be good to test it, you could just email me what you have configured individually, to see how well it handles that. So, it can handle a lot. But it definitely needs this spot to recognize, ah yes, this area is designated for me to display texts for the figure part.

51:59 – 52:12
And I think it needs that. But like I said, with almost daily releases here, it wouldn't be a problem to tweak something to make it work. Okay. Thank you.

52:12 – 52:29
Yes, sure. Then I would now switch gears and briefly leave the lyric area. I mentioned to you that with the planner, you can plan a club evening quite well. Evening planning.

52:29 – 52:40
I haven't found a better name yet, but maybe someone will come up with one. David? Yes? I have a quick question about the texts again.

52:40 – 53:03
Can you also use multiple texts and switch during the Singing Calls? If I have an RTF file with my old texts that I use, and I also load this HTML file, but for example, I often have different or additional texts in there, more text, so that I can switch in between. During the singing? Yes.

53:03 – 53:36
Okay. We should test that, the buttons are there. I’ll note that down too, so it wouldn’t be a case that came to mind, because usually I have one lyric for one song, but I’ll write that down. The reason for my question is that when I set these Dynamic Lyrics, I also see figures pre-highlighted that I might not otherwise use.

53:37 – 53:46
But I know, what do I know now at the ending? Do I have a better text or a different text? Whatever. I want to see that too, so I can quickly switch to the text for the ending.

53:46 – 53:54
So, okay. That’s why I’m asking. Yes. You could do alternative lyrics.

53:56 – 54:11
Yeah, no, all good, all good. But we just want to make sure we have the right text as well. So a shadow text, like a right column approximately. This is the original and this is the overlayed one here.

54:11 – 54:28
Yes, or just that you press a button to switch, so it changes to the other text. You don’t have to see both. Okay, you can of course always turn off the Dynamic Lyrics on the fly. Then it returns to the normal view.

54:28 – 54:46
But not for the RTF file. Yes, I think so. Here I have something replaced now when I turn off the Dynamic Lyrics. Well, it doesn't jump to the spot yet, but it has displayed the normal original text here again.

54:47 – 55:06
Yeah, I'm not talking about the original figures. I'm talking about a different text that I will enter. If I, I don't know, instead of Circle Left, which is given in the Singing Call, in the original, I have this HTML file with the Circle Left or just with a Ladies Chain. But I have a text for Grand Square.

55:06 – 55:39
I only have that in the RTF file. I don't think I would be very eager to retype or copy all the texts again. For that, you can edit each lyric on the Lyric page and then just copy your Grand Square text into the area, highlight it in a different color, and basically have both in parallel. Once in, I don't know, yellow, once in red, and then you have to decide what to do.

55:42 – 56:00
But still, I have that copying work first. Time out. I would say, Thorsten, we can just discuss your requirements concretely, what you wish for, and then I'll make a suggestion on how I can solve it.

56:00 – 56:10
I'm always very thorough. I want to understand the requirements concretely. If that's okay with you, shall we just exchange ideas via email or something? Yeah, sure.

56:10 – 56:21
No problem. Then you explain it to me again. Everything is possible, like that. So many great features have already been added.

56:23 – 56:46
Like the evening planning based on the Emotional Response Rate principle, which comes from Wade, I know it from Wade Driver. I don't know if he originally invented it, but he definitely allowed me to use it when I asked him. So you can assign an Emotional Response Rate for each song.

56:46 – 57:19
So one is the crowd-pleasers, where everyone sings along, where the dancers really get into it. That might be a different song per region, but those are really the mood boosters. And the opposite would be something like a love song, where probably just some but not really a proper sing-along happens. So you can assign an emotional response value for each song, in addition to this quality.

57:19 – 57:43
And then you can plan the evening here. So you say how many tips there should be, with what tip length. A block should consist of how many tips, I don't want to go into the greatest detail, but you plan your evening or your club day and say, what mood should they be in at what time regarding the Singing. And then it suggests good songs based on the data.

57:45 – 58:04
You can also just try things out a bit. And then there are things like, you want to use the same genre for the same tip. So that an Elvis Patter and an Elvis Singing Call come or all songs are from the 90s. And also the same label.

58:04 – 58:26
Well, it's not my choice, but some might like it that way. And then based on that, it makes these suggestions for you. And you can still type into a field and of course choose other things where you say, no, I don't agree with that suggestion, but it simply offers you what... what ranks high and would fit well here.

58:26 – 58:47
Just to give you an idea of how to quickly plan a club night from a completely different perspective, namely from the mood level. And I especially know that those who have been in the business longer also care about how my dancers are doing. And when do they run out of energy?

58:47 – 59:19
And against that, when can we really challenge them again and have fun with them? That's something you can engage with a bit, but it's not the entry topic, but it actually helps later on. And of course, you can also plan an entire evening with the push of a button. If you're happy with the settings, that's fine too.

59:19 – 59:30
Melanie wrote, how do I set a level? Sorry, that question was probably already asked. What do you mean by, where do I set a level? The ERR, right?

59:31 – 1:00:00
So you have these energy levels set behind the various Singing Calls and Patters, and I have to set them somewhere because for every Caller, a song has a different energy level, let's just say. Yeah, I'm based in the Ruhr area. Here, you can also use a more laid-back song, which elsewhere would probably risk being a total fiasco.

1:00:00 – 1:00:24
Or every region has something different. So it's important that we all have an average that we would probably agree on, but in detail, it depends on your energy, the energy of your dancers, and so on. You can find the ERR in the song data, and there you can simply select peak, preparation, baseline, or calming.

1:00:24 – 1:01:07
And once the data is in, it will generate the recommendation based on that. I just briefly mentioned that in the potential window, I also offer for mass imports of various things, like genres for example. If any of you have access to ChatGPT or Claude or something, you can export all the lists through that. You give an AI, for example for genre, and the AI works with all the information it has available, figuring out which genre it can assign this song to. And there’s also something similar for ERR.

1:01:09 – 1:01:24
Also, because there are simply hits that you can find on the internet and are named as such. And then the AI can also estimate quite well. But you're absolutely right. Ultimately, it depends on your assessment.

1:01:24 – 1:01:41
You also have to deal with the result. But you can also get support in filling in the data because, as far as I know, it's not in any system. That means the initial filling, especially when you have around 1000 songs, could be a bit more time-consuming if you wanted to do it all by hand.

1:01:41 – 1:02:09
And I thought, as always, to automate most of it. And then check again later how the evaluation was. That's why I have this feedback function, which was at the very beginning, you can turn it on and off. That means, after you've played a song, it asks you, and I can call up the feedback button, here you can set the quality of the song.

1:02:09 – 1:02:36
When I say Jolene is definitely a nine for me. And how strongly did the dancers interact? I would say there are maybe two for me now. But you can also ask yourself after each song that was played if you’re still satisfied with that mindset or if you want to change it. This way, your data base also develops continuously while you call.

1:02:36 – 1:02:53
That's why, while you dance and call, your data gets better. Very good, but that's not an entry topic. I’d rather show something else.

1:02:54 – 1:03:07
ERR, that's really good. Namely, the topic of personalization or configuration. That's the most powerful tool in Callers Caddy. I haven't shown that yet.

1:03:07 – 1:03:26
These are the so-called rules or Rules in English. You can define a lot about how you want things. And then I’ll first add the Stream Deck here. Stream Deck, I don’t know if anyone knows that.

1:03:26 – 1:04:00
From video streaming. A thing that you can connect to a PC or a laptop, and there you can press real buttons, which you can then assign to function keys. I’ve built a virtual Stream Deck here, with which you can configure icons that then do things. Because ultimately, if you’re doing a lot of hot hashes, you might want a button to quickly and easily speed up the song, or if you’re with the notes…

1:04:00 – 1:04:07
Oh, I haven't mentioned the notes yet. Oh God, I forgot. That will come soon. I’ll do the rules anyway.

1:04:07 – 1:04:22
So you can define buttons or for example key presses. So assign keys with any actions. And they do something. Or the system does something automatically.

1:04:22 – 1:04:37
To get to the rules, you can click on Rules here or there’s the little gear icon among the items. Here are just some system rules that come standard.

1:04:37 – 1:04:51
For example, F5 is the play button. If at some point you say you want a different key for play, you can simply turn off this standard rule here. And create a new one.

1:04:51 – 1:05:02
You give… I’ll just make a new rule with you. For example… Greater than 5 minutes beep.

1:05:02 – 1:05:17
So, if your Patter lasts longer than 5 minutes, the system should beep at you. Just as an example. And first, it needs a trigger.

1:05:17 – 1:05:38
That's the trigger that kicks off this rule. And here, there are many rules, like when a song starts or when a button is pressed here. Or you can also define your own buttons if you say you want to use P for something else.

1:05:38 – 1:05:57
So, with the buttons, I always advise caution with the letters, because the letters are also used for text input. That can always be a bit tricky, but just give it a try. But here, for the greater than five minutes. There’s a Play Timer that I select.

1:05:57 – 1:06:11
Then, if I want, I can select a condition. I would say I want to be informed during the Patter and get a reminder. Then I can set another condition here. There are really many.

1:06:11 – 1:06:38
And I would then say, Song Type equals Patter. And then as an action, I would say, there are many actions. I have to look for the Play… Timer, Timer…

1:06:38 – 1:06:47
Play Sound. And then I can select a file here. It has to come from you, of course.

1:06:48 – 1:07:04
So, beep, yeah. Okay, I’ll take that one. And then I’ll name this thing Beep and then click Save, and then it’s added here as a new rule. I can also set it as a button number, at which point should it trigger?

1:07:04 – 1:07:17
I don’t even know if I have a beep symbol. But even if not, it doesn’t matter. I’ll just take a cursor here. And now the cursor appears on the left.

1:07:17 – 1:08:00
It’s not necessary because the beep is supposed to be triggered by the five minutes. But now, if the Patter lasts longer than five minutes, it will start beeping once. And of course, you can create all sorts of other things, like if you press a button, the lyrics should appear in large format or something. So you can configure a lot from this toolbox, not everything, but a lot, just the way you want it, and that’s really the biggest thing that allows you to automate your workflow as a Caller as much as possible in many, many areas.

1:08:00 – 1:08:24
And with the actions, I don’t want to list them all, it’s such a huge rabbit hole you can disappear into. I wanted to show you the rules. They are really, really great. And then I’ll take another look at the things I want to mention again, but not as individual items.

1:08:24 – 1:08:55
Also Reports, that is, we in Germany usually have to fill out the GEMA music follow-up list for specials and so on. And since the Callers Caddy saves which songs you've played when you select a location, you get a list of the songs with the labels and so on, and when they were played, which you can simply export and give to your club organizer or whoever needs to submit it. I had potential there, there are a lot of bulk edits.

1:08:55 – 1:09:24
Statistics, if you want to analyze which songs you use very often and which ones you never use, then you can use the statistics. Photo, if you have a webcam connected, you can, for example, the best one is a wired one, then it's easier to blend into the room, you can take a picture of a pilot square and display it as a window at the push of a button with a rule. Then you get… Oh, that's what my pilot square looked like.

1:09:24 – 1:09:31
We had evening planning. Break. Okay, of course, there’s also a break timer.

1:09:31 – 1:09:44
Three-minute break, whether you want to play the last song with music or just count down is up to you. Rules. Jump marks. So I'm a sight caller, I don't need that, but…

1:09:45 – 1:10:09
I know some, especially A-callers and so on, some also work with recordings. I'm getting to know many different types of callers right now, even in America. They often work with recordings and would like jump marks so they can jump to different spots. So repeat module 3 for me and then it jumps there.

1:10:10 – 1:10:39
And the pilot square, you can type in information like Petra dances with Peter and he wears a yellow dress and she has blue, so you can enter a few things about your pilot square. Those are just a few more widgets that should be mentioned. There's a lot in there, but just like that, it's a colorful bouquet and you don't have to use them all. So, now there was another question, how do I get the button into the Stream Deck?

1:10:39 – 1:11:09
So either one, this field here, the Stream Deck is displayed through Stream Deck, and you get the button through the rules. If you go to the rule, I’ll go back down to the 5-minute bell, at the very bottom is the Stream Deck field again. If the button number is 0, then the thing won't be displayed in the Stream Deck. If you take another number greater than 0, then you define the position with the button number.

1:11:09 – 1:11:41
So here it would now be in position 4 and you see, then the arrow has slipped to position 4. Of course, it also applies here that the Stream Deck always rearranges itself. Making this field larger makes it two lines. You can place them wherever you want, and it always rearranges itself to fit as best as possible into that somewhere, whether it's here or so.

1:11:41 – 1:11:58
It always optimizes itself there. That's how you get the buttons in there. So. Then I’ll quickly check my list to see if I need to show anything else.

1:11:58 – 1:12:19
Yes, I also want to show you the notes. Topic paperless caller office. And when you have selected a location, you can save the notes for that location. Whether it's that you owe Petra 10 euros for the next evening.

1:12:19 – 1:12:33
That works too. You can also write it down. But you can also put choreographic themes or whatever here and remind yourself with a note. So, up here you write, well, I'm just being very…

1:12:34 – 1:12:52
I quickly click on Insert down below because I want to add here. C and D and E and F. If you make three lines, it creates a separator for you. You can use that well for tips or something like that.

1:12:52 – 1:13:06
You can also, this is like the script for your evening, if you want. You can at least use it that way. And you can also drag the playlist notes from the playlist over. Right now, no song is selected.

1:13:06 – 1:13:41
I want to drag everything over. And then it shows up, these are shortcodes, that's what it's called in IT language, it now says Load Song and then title and then start as Patter. That means, if you select the point, now it says Jolene and I activate it, it goes to Barthezz-On the Move, loads the song, and puts it in. You can also, with the sequences, if you've selected, now we have the Ferris Wheel stuff, you can also say here, add to notes.

1:13:42 – 1:13:57
And now it has written an ID for me. That means it has packed this sequence ID for me. And if I activate it now, it jumps there. So, you can really plan a script for the evening here if you want.

1:13:57 – 1:14:23
I'm the type who doesn't stick to any plan I've made anyway. So, this will restrict me a bit. But the possibilities are there to plan and call up notes throughout the evening and then check them off or leave them. Oh, and what I haven't shown yet was the toCall.

1:14:23 – 1:14:41
That's already inserted down below. This is brand new. I wanted to mention that, especially since we're working with the new figures, it's still a bit in development, but you can, for example, insert calls into a button list here. And my laptop, for example, still has a touchscreen.

1:14:41 – 1:15:04
So I can just click away a button here if I've called Roll Away tonight. Then it disappears from the list of things I wanted to do and lands under done. This way, you can also visually remind yourself of what you still wanted to do that evening. So far, only the normal calls from a list that you can add are working, but as I said, it's fresh stuff.

1:15:04 – 1:15:30
There will also be free text input coming, so you have that as a button-click solution for reminders. So, with all that, there's much more, but I've now flown over all the important things of the Callers Caddy. That was certainly overwhelming. I'm looking back at the chat.

1:15:30 – 1:16:00
It says, availability planning for Apple and Linux. Difficult to predict. So Linux will probably be more startable because it's not an issue for me to set up a virtual machine with Linux to test how well the Callers Caddy runs under Linux. Apple poses the bigger challenge because apps can only be built on physical Apple devices.

1:16:00 – 1:16:17
And I don't have an Apple device. So I will somehow have to borrow an Apple or something. Or rent an Apple by the hour. There are providers where you can do that on a daily basis.

1:16:19 – 1:16:45
So yes, basically a lot is already working for Linux and Apple. I'm aiming for Wine, W-I-N-E, which is a platform or support tool that allows you to run Windows stuff on other platforms. That will be my first test. For Apple, it's not yet working one hundred percent, I know that.

1:16:45 – 1:17:29
So that would be after the Go Live, I wanted to do that after the two appointments here with German and English, then also soon with Thomas, we'll bring him in, he'll get an official 2.0 version, so that it also, at least visually, comes out of the area of, yeah, it might still be in development or something, but becomes something official. So I can't say yet when it will be available, but a lot is prepared, so it just needs to be prioritized and brought into testing. I have, that's a good point, I have a fundraising campaign to place here, for anyone who would like to have Apple support.

1:17:29 – 1:18:04
The Callers Caddy is free, but actually, right now, renting Apple devices does incur costs. So I'm not sad about receiving donations, not official donations, just coffee fund donations or something. With a few euros in the coffee cup, I can certainly rent an Apple device and so on. So feel free, if you really say it's great software and you want to support it, I would be really happy if someone wants to support it a bit.

1:18:04 – 1:18:25
Be it by testing and giving feedback, but also with donations. No question, then things will move faster. To the ramp. Otherwise, the Callers Caddy will always remain free because we need new dancers and we need fresh callers. And the callers that are there need to be optimally cared for and supported so that they stay with us for a long time.

1:18:25 – 1:18:59
So the software should continue to be free. And thus many new callers also have a good, really good start. No stress, so an additional technical stress is not needed, we have newbie callers in the club, the technical stress doesn't need to be added when you already have to juggle so many balls. And when I think about how I started back in 2001, Vic Ceder's program was the only one available.

1:18:59 – 1:19:29
And as a beginner caller, I didn't have 249 dollars or something to afford it. That's why I started programming myself back then. Since we're talking about special requests, I also do Contra. Can I create an extra program for myself where I can throw in my own lyrics?

1:19:29 – 1:19:44
So point 1, the Callers Caddy remains strictly positioned for Square Dance callers. Just to make that clear. The product will not be diluted. But it is open source.

1:19:45 – 1:20:06
According to the GNU license. So you could, if you, well, the name Callers Caddy is also protected, so I don't think anyone will use it improperly. There are consequences for that. But you can use the code and of course, if you have software knowledge, you can use it as a basis to create something for yourself.

1:20:06 – 1:20:41
You can certainly use the audio engine, it's all already tested and runs stable. Many concerns have already been programmed away. So if you have programming knowledge, you can develop something of your own based on that code. I was more concerned about whether, if I have a program, I can add my own program to it or if it's the fixed list according to CALLERLAB.

1:20:41 – 1:20:53

1:24:24 – 1:24:39
Once the song has recognized the beats per minute, the length of the called part is always fixed. But you can of course shift the whole template from left to right. 6030x. Interesting name.

1:24:39 – 1:24:48
Yeah, probably for anonymity. You can go with minus 1 second here.

1:24:48 – 1:25:00
Oh, I need to go into sync mode. I'm in it now. Sorry. Sorry.

1:25:00 – 1:25:13
It's synced. But it does that too. You change the start time here and thus the whole thing shows 0.38.

1:25:13 – 1:25:28
You shift the entire frame from left to right. But when you change the start time, it counts down from 200 instead of 10. Oh, at the start. Okay, that's weird.

1:25:28 – 1:25:51
Maybe, well actually… I suspect what you mean is the countdown at the beginning. That counts in when this entered start time is. It's just a nice feature to not miss the Sides Face, Grand Square call, or whatever else, Head Ladies Center, Tea Cup Chain is even longer.

1:25:51 – 1:26:10
That you don't miss the call… I suspect you mean 60x, 30x, that 200 is displayed for you instead of 10 or so. I would actually suspect, you can maybe confirm it again if you write in whether that's really it.

1:26:10 – 1:26:31
Otherwise, I would say we can just discuss that later via email or privately… Can you hear me? Yes, so I changed the 007 up there and played the song, and then suddenly there were 200 on Dings.

1:26:31 – 1:27:00
If you play the song now, Oh, you have no countdown at all, right? I would have only had the second then… David, you can't be heard anymore. Am I being heard again?

1:27:01 – 1:27:22
Yes, now you are. Okay. But I don't have that, when I press play, it counts down until the song starts. Yes, and I would have had that with a song too, completely normal, and then I just changed the start time, wanted it a bit earlier.

1:27:22 – 1:27:29
Yeah. And then suddenly I had 200 there. Okay, that's quirky. You can check, hold on.

1:27:33 – 1:28:10
You should check the extended data for the song and under properties. There should probably be some weird number at the start for you. That would be the only point I could think of that explains why it counts 200. Or if the beats per minute were somehow misrecognized, because 200 seconds is quite a lot.

1:28:10 – 1:28:27
Yeah, no, it worked at first. And then I just changed the start time. So, check later for the song how it looks with the extended data and the Singing Start property. There’s probably some weird number in there.

1:28:27 – 1:28:46
Then I would just have to check later how the code does it and how it might have happened for you. But it's hard to diagnose remotely, but it's software, I always say, it's never perfect, but this is no different from other software, so.

1:28:47 – 1:29:03
No problem. We can solve everything, just check it out and otherwise, just email me. Any further questions?.

1:29:03 – 1:29:13
That was still the screen share. Yeah, I have a few smaller questions. Go ahead, Thorsten. Yeah, so you don't need an extra player anymore.

1:29:13 – 1:29:23
That's integrated into the program. But for that one Callers Caddy, the player still has to be extra, right? You mean Winamp and Pacemaker back then?

1:29:23 – 1:29:33
No, it's all… I directly tap into the audio stream and manipulate it myself. So nothing extra is needed. It's completely autonomous.

1:29:33 – 1:29:47
That's why zipping and unzipping. Everything is on-site. Nothing needs to be added additionally. You could even, if you use USB 3.0, it will definitely work.

1:29:47 – 1:30:02
You could also just travel to a colleague with the USB stick, plug it in, and start from there. Then one question I think has already been resolved. The F-keys are already pre-programmed again, right? The usual functions from before.

1:30:02 – 1:30:20
The ones you had before in the old Callers Caddy. The 4, F5, F6, F7, F8 are pre-set. You can change them through the Rules if you don't agree with the four, and of course, you can define more. But first, from the standard delivery, it comes with the…

1:30:20 – 1:30:31
So if you still have a printed label from before, you can stick it on your new laptop. Yes, exactly, I still have that too. I have two small questions left. First, the less serious one.

1:30:31 – 1:30:44
There was a caller list and a playlist in the old Caddy. Do you have that too? Yes, I can show it, I should show it once. You mean that when callers work with you, when you do something together…

1:30:44 – 1:30:58
Yes, when I call with Jörg, for example, with Jörg Biewald, I have certain Singing Calls, we both know we can sing them together, so you can just display them. For that, there’s the Custom filter in the song list.

1:30:59 – 1:31:23
And you can, it’s nothing other than, you ask Jörg to create a playlist from the songs, the 10 Calls that you know. Then you say here to add to Playlist, so you define your playlist with whatever. Let’s say those are the songs that Jörg picked. Then you save it as Jörg.

1:31:24 – 1:31:43
So. And then you can choose Jörg here as a caller in the song list under Custom. And now only these songs are in here. 18 will be displayed.

1:31:43 – 1:32:04
And of course, you can also add Peter and David. Then you can also reduce how many, yes. So in the end, it will also stick with Amarillo by Morning and Wagon Wheel or something like that. There are already more, but I think you could take over the list from the old Caddy, right?

1:32:04 – 1:32:26
Yes, it’s also included that you create playlists for each caller or the caller creates them. And with that, you can switch a filter, you can see it here, it will appear here as its own name. And you can flexibly turn it on and off for the whole evening or so,

1:32:26 – 1:32:39
Like in the old Caddy too. Just nicer than before. Yes, and I have one last question. Can the data from the old Caddy that are in these Access files be transferred?

1:32:39 – 1:32:55
Yes, there is the Migration.exe. It’s in the same Callers Caddy folder as the Callers Caddy Exe. It’s a guided transfer process that works for SqView and the old Callers Caddy.

1:32:55 – 1:33:10
You click, then you choose where your MDB is, where your songs are, and it pulls everything in, takes over the pitch files, even takes over your history. So everything comes over. And the history mainly? The history is completely copied.

1:33:10 – 1:33:25
Okay. All fun. I've thought about this, of course. How does a new program, which has been in the background for years, find its way? What are the hurdles that might prevent someone from switching?

1:33:25 – 1:33:46
And of course, if you have a thousand songs or so, or more, because you've been around longer, then it's a pain point to have to re-enter all the songs, set pitches, set loops. That's why a lot of migration, yes. The pain points are gone. Melanie raises her hand.

1:33:46 – 1:34:07
Yes, I have another question, because this program is new to me as well, and I'm still working with SqView. Is there a manual for it, where you can read through the steps or the features again? So, a manual. I'm definitely relying on modern stuff.

1:34:07 – 1:34:20
There will never be a PDF that has everything written down. But of course, there is a lot of other support. For one, on the website. There are tutorials.

1:34:20 – 1:34:37
I was thinking... Oh, no. I didn't want to go into that on the site. In the tutorials, you find videos on all the important functions, even deeper than what we covered today, that I've recorded.

1:34:37 – 1:35:03
These are always short 5-minute videos, roughly, about importing songs and setting loops and so on. For the visual type who likes to watch things, not for everything, because we currently have a really high development speed. We haven't found the time to document everything we've done yet. But there's really a lot in there.

1:35:03 – 1:35:49
And you'll find videos for all the important things to get started. And then if you scroll all the way down on the homepage, you'll find a lot of blog articles I've written and also a search function. So if you're really looking for something about loops, just type in Loop and you'll get a bunch of blog articles about loops, or if you're looking for rules, there's really already a lot created. I also want to continue focusing on dynamic documentation because I think it's always annoying to have a PDF or a fixed manual.

1:35:49 – 1:36:00
I think that's not appropriate for today's times and the dynamics that the program has. I also don't want to keep updating a PDF. That's why. But you'll find a lot there.

1:36:00 – 1:36:17
And when we develop less and document more, that area will also be expanded again. Yes, no, it's good to know. I really think it's great that you've already created tutorials where you can read up on things. I believe that helps a lot.

1:36:17 – 1:36:47
Yes. Then I have one more question, and that is whether it makes sense to use SqView and Callers Caddy in parallel for a while until everything is really running smoothly, or can I really just switch everything over and use it right away? I'm not exactly the most tech-savvy person.

1:36:47 – 1:37:03
Technically, I would say, migrate and get rid of the rest. But personally, I totally understand that. You can run them in parallel until you feel ready. That's perfectly fine.

1:37:03 – 1:37:20
Especially in SqView, you're used to the operation now. The operation in Callers Caddy will be different in some parts. That's for sure. So just give yourself the time to grow into the new tool if you want to switch.

1:37:20 – 1:37:43
And when you say it's time for your first club night or something with Callers Caddy, just let it run. You don't need to delete SqView from your computer; just let it run in parallel. I believe SqView also offers tracking of what you've played when, as far as I know. Yes, okay.

1:37:43 – 1:38:31
But also the data will, I think, it's been so long, about half a year ago, will also be migrated. So, of course, the longer you call in parallel, the more the data will diverge. So if you use the migration now, transport your data from SqView to Callers Caddy, and then use both in parallel for another year, they will naturally collect tracking data in different places. That's the only point against an immediate switch, but for the point of getting fit and understanding how Callers Caddy works, the best thing is just to install it, play around a bit, import two or three songs, and just get comfortable with it.

1:38:31 – 1:38:50
And when you eventually say, no, I understand how to use this thing now, then... then you can tear down the tents with the old one. I can't tell you to migrate tomorrow or in a year. You have to decide that.

1:38:50 – 1:39:04
I wouldn't presume to make that decision for you. It depends on your gut feeling about when you feel secure enough. Technically, I would say, rip off the band-aid in one go. Okay, all clear.

1:39:04 – 1:39:21
Thanks. Then I have one last question, and that is regarding importing songs. You mentioned earlier that they should or can be ZIP files. I've already unpacked many of these ZIP files. Does it have to be a ZIP file?

1:39:21 – 1:39:56
No, the ZIP file is the most convenient because you get the thing from the download and just drop it in, and it organizes everything directly into the right categories, the lyrics here, the music there, and so on, sets the links. That's the easy part, but you can also, if you have an MP3 folder, just drag the whole folder for import, and it will sort it out. No, that's a great feature that you can just drag and drop, and it does the rest.

1:39:57 – 1:40:07
I naturally picked out the media-compatible stuff today. Okay, all clear. Great, then thank you very much for the introduction to Callers Caddy. Yes, you're welcome.

1:40:07 – 1:40:18
Then Klaus raised his hand next, if I observed correctly. Yes, I have a comment. I tried it with USB. It doesn't work for me.

1:40:18 – 1:40:37
That could of course be my fault. The second in the view of Callers Caddy. It would be nice to have the listing in alphabetical order. That's probably a small thing, because I'm always searching in the list for where this or that is.

1:40:37 – 1:40:49
You have to go through the whole list. That's the small thing and… Stop. Let me ask one question, I don't want to stack everything in my head right now.

1:40:49 – 1:40:59
So the question is, what do you want in alphabetical order? The list, the songs sorted alphabetically? Why are you silent now? Do I have to turn the mic back on first?.

1:40:59 – 1:41:19
No, when you go to View in the menu list, the listing is random. I would like that to be alphabetical. I'm always looking for where the lyrics are. Well, they are above the middle.

1:41:21 – 1:41:37
The player is right at the top. That's maybe because of its importance or something, but alphabetically you would find it under P as well. But that's just a minor issue, I noticed that. It's not a big deal.

1:41:37 – 1:41:47
They were just added historically. But that's not a big deal. I also think it contributes to clarity. Good point.

1:41:47 – 1:41:59
Good. And what actually… So we had already been in contact via message about this. I regularly have dropouts in the player.

1:41:59 – 1:42:11
And you told me something that it could somehow be analyzed. I didn't understand that. Okay. It can be analyzed.

1:42:11 – 1:42:31
I would just send that again. I'll just make a note. A very rough hint. Sometimes, when the hardware is insufficient or the wrong sound card is set, it can lead to dropouts.

1:42:31 – 1:43:06
He's trying to iterate from easy to difficult, which is the best thing to do. But you can find your various sound cards or rather sound channels down here on the right in the selection. And you can test whether there are dropouts with specific ones and not with others. That's the easiest way to test the sound quality.

1:43:06 – 1:43:26
And you can find it in settings, I just need to look for it quickly. Otherwise, I'll send it to you again later via email or through our Facebook channel. Here in the Debug Performance Logging. You can turn that on too.

1:43:28 – 1:43:52
Then it will create a log on your computer. Wait a moment, let me check here. It's searching for you. So many things here on David's computer.

1:43:52 – 1:44:16
Then you will find in your Callers Caddy folder under Logs. You will find a performance file under Performance, Perf, that gets created. It contains a lot of information that you can send me. It logs everything he needs and what he does.

1:44:16 – 1:44:46
And usually, you can find out what he's waiting for. Most of the time, it's some process that is slower or something like that. I can also find out if you say it always stutters with that sound channel, then you select it and let it run, and then you have a file, and then you send it to me, and I can often draw good conclusions from it. We had that with Thorsten Hubmann too.

1:44:46 – 1:45:10
He was running a slow laptop as a test and it was stuttering too. But when we found the right sound channel, it ran smoothly, even on an old machine. Well, I don't think it can be the hardware because I bought the laptop specifically after the new Callers Caddy came out. So it's half a year old.

1:45:10 – 1:45:27
Yeah, okay, then it's not the hardware, right. And everything else, I mean, I saw those different things down there, but I couldn't make sense of them. So I'll just try them all out, but the dropouts are regular. That's really annoying.

1:45:28 – 1:45:39
Yeah, it is. I always prioritize audio in development. So no matter what rules you set or whatever. You can let the system deal with many other things.

1:45:39 – 1:46:01
But the rules have to wait if the audio channel is somehow threatened. That's why I'm really interested if you have solid data with these log files and you say, in this log file, it stuttered every 10 seconds, then definitely send it over. I need to take a look at that. No question.

1:46:02 – 1:46:07
Okay. Cool, thanks. Then I had another hand.

1:46:07 – 1:46:23
I saw another hand, but that's gone now. I have a question. With the To-Call, can I set the figures for each tip separately, like in the pre-planning?.

1:46:24 – 1:46:38
Not yet. That's a pretty new feature. The first version was simple, just throw all the figures from the current list on and I can remove any that I don't want to display.

1:46:38 – 1:46:56
There will also be a free text input, because I like to do things halfway. So I want to just have Half Scoot Backs or something like that in there. That's not an official figure in the list. It will still be a combination of a bit of mixing with the notes.

1:46:56 – 1:47:10
And I'm also planning that you... Wait a minute, that comes to mind... I can already check things off and add them to the notes. Then it will show up here.

1:47:10 – 1:47:29
Then it says... as a Call-to-Call program, Program Plus, but don't include Ping Pong Circulate, Turn Thru, and Pass to the Center. But there will also be an exchange option and invitation option. It's just that this came in, I don't know, a week ago or something.

1:47:29 – 1:47:47
And that's the typical case, a new feature comes in and of course there are those, I've tried it like this, can we change this and that? Those are just good ideas from the user community. I'm always happy about that. It's definitely in the development of the To-Call button.

1:47:47 – 1:48:05
Yeah, cool. I have one more question about the pilot square. I had marked the men, so the first man, in blue. And every time the tip is finished, I remove the name, but the blue marking is gone too.

1:48:06 – 1:48:23
Can I keep the blue marking so that it's generally set? Because your dancers always have to wear blue on 1? Yes, it's good if you've trained your dancers that way.

1:48:23 – 1:48:53
So far, clearing means clearing. I could of course make a name-clear and color-clear separately. Yes, it's just that I like to work with my checkers and they are blue on one. And I've noticed that it's easier for me when the boy is additionally marked in blue on one.

1:48:53 – 1:49:05
For whatever reason. Okay. So for me, adding two buttons, one for names and one for colors, is not an issue. Yeah, no, that's good.

1:49:05 – 1:49:15
So, I find the area of application interesting. Yeah, well, that's cool. It's cool. But yeah, no problem.

1:49:15 – 1:49:42
Wonderful. And also, I haven't introduced this yet, I have here on the website under Ideas, we are still a small but growing community around the Callers Caddy, and of course it should become the best Square Dance Caller Tool in the world. That's why you can also submit suggestions here and let others vote on them.

1:49:42 – 1:50:06
So, I just think it's a nice thing from the community that later, because... I can still keep personal contact with everyone who writes me something. However, I expect that when all the American callers come at me, there will eventually be a bottleneck. And that's why a bit of preparation, channeling into feature suggestions and wishes is already needed.

1:50:06 – 1:50:27
That means, if you have any idea, no matter how quirky it may seem to you, just write it down and if actually more than two or three people click on it and I see, hey, it seems more people want this, I would be silly to resist. Very cool.

1:50:28 – 1:50:48
So I think the machine is really good. This is actually the first machine that doesn't have any dropouts for me. And even though I'm the Chaos Queen times three, because I deal with computers, well, computers sometimes like me and I sometimes like them too. Yeah, it's working for me at the moment.

1:50:48 – 1:51:01
I can also use it during club nights and it's becoming more and more useful. And I think that's really great. So thank you very much for your really great work that you do. That you're always reachable even at night.

1:51:01 – 1:51:13
So, let's not build any expectations here for all the listeners. Well, that's what you said. You work at night? No.

1:51:13 – 1:51:29
But usually, I just go back to the computer in the evening when the family is sleeping or going to bed, although I have teenagers who never sleep. But then I can just go back to the computer and code something again. Yeah, sure. That's why we've communicated at night more often.

1:51:30 – 1:51:44
But officially, I say the support channels are not available at night. Yeah, call me, call me at any time. No, really.

1:51:44 – 1:52:19
I also see that with the ideas it's one thing, but also the support channels, that I have to, let's say, professionalize the whole thing and will do so, simply because some write via Facebook, others via WhatsApp, others via email. Eventually, there has to be something like a support@callerscaddy.de to enter where everyone then inputs their mistake. And it's completely foreseeable to me that this will happen in that area. Because otherwise, hey, it's a hobby and I don't earn a single Euro from it.

1:52:19 – 1:52:50
So I have to say, I also enjoy it, no question about it, but you also have to keep things in perspective regarding the effort involved. No, but actually, to the question from earlier about the documents and tutorials. I've also prepared a small chat window that should pop up on the Callers Caddy, where you can get quick information about, like, I can't set loops, so it finds the right solution article.

1:52:50 – 1:53:13
I know software development, which is often asked about, and I want to automate as much help as possible there. Of course, just like with the countdown from 200. Some questions can be quickly clarified on the surface, and some are just, no, then send me the database, I need to look at it in the specific case, because you really don't know what it could be due to.

1:53:13 – 1:53:21
Yeah, otherwise I'm totally satisfied and it's fun. That's the main thing.

1:53:21 – 1:53:32
Last chance to ask a question. Otherwise, I'm glad my voice has held up today. A little cold is getting in the way.

1:53:33 – 1:53:40
I've got it already. Yeah, stay away. I'm far away. Very good,

1:53:40 – 1:53:54
Yeah, you're in the north, I'm in the middle. Cool. Then there are no further questions. I think that's good too.

1:53:54 – 1:54:14
Then we've at least really skimmed over all the topics in broad overview. Yeah, as I said, there are a lot of support things in there that help. And otherwise, I'm just an email or a Facebook contact away, feel free to ask me anything. Great.

1:54:14 – 1:54:28
Yeah, thank you very much. When we finish up, I might be able to talk to you for a minute. Yeah, we can do that. We can do that, Klaus.

1:54:28 – 1:54:38
No, that's not a problem at all. I'll start the recording right away. No, so definitely from me, thank you for taking the time.

1:54:38 – 1:55:07
It actually took two hours, but I think we covered everything well, and maybe we can do it again later if there's interest, so just reach out to me if you're really interested in a special topic like sequences or Dynamic Lyrics, so we can dive deeper into that. If you really like the software, please tell everyone. That way, we can get some drive and momentum going.

1:55:07 – 1:55:20
And if you don't like the software anymore, then contact me personally and tell me why not, where I need to improve. Cool. Then I wish you a nice rest of your Saturday.

1:55:21 – 1:55:34
Thank you so much for your time. You're welcome. It's a topic close to my heart. And our hobby is just too awesome not to support it in some way.

1:55:34 – 1:55:45
Thank you very much. It was very informative. I believe that. Now I have to try it out, otherwise it will be behind…

1:55:45 – 1:55:51
The threads get tangled at the back and don't make a carpet. Yes. All clear.

1:55:51 – 1:55:54
Then I'll stop the recording now and wish you a nice evening.

This workshop took place on 26.09.2026.
